The public part of Monday’s meeting is fairly light and the Priority-based budgeting workshop that had been planned for the hours preceding the meeting has been bumped to later in the week.
Agenda highlights
Energy Corporation
This is a housekeeping motion of sorts to align administrative work with the most recent decisions of Council regarding explorations for solar power generation on City lands. The proposed motion is to free up the unspent portion of funds allocated for a Business Plan and Market Impact analysis ($73,000 of an original $75,000) and to redirect efforts to the Solar Generating Facility initiative that was decided on earlier this year. We expect the next presentation on this matter on July 13 to consider the costs and regulatory requirements of a potential project.
Policing Quarterly Report
This report and associated crime statistics give us an idea of the work that our local RCMP is undertaking. Two complex cases were dealt with during this period: After-hours construction thefts that resulted in the RCMP recovering $25k in construction materials, and another regarding a series of mail thefts that resulted in the recovery of many packages. Drug related offences appear to be declining significantly, with no production-related crimes reported in this period. Domestic violence continues to be be a focus area, as does traffic violation enforcement.
Youth Advisory Committee Annual Report
Our former YAC chair will present last year’s report and the proposed 2022 priorities, which includes collaborating with the Senior’s Committee and exploring different ways for members to contribute through St. Albert’s committee structure.
