Deputy Mayor + Summer 2018 Council Activities

Over the last few weeks:

As Deputy Mayor:

  • I attended the Sailfish Swim Meet at Fountain Park, where I participated in a fun relay to open the race. The participants, parents, and volunteers were great!
  • With the help of my 10-year-old rescue dog, I opened the Tails on the Trail annual walk & fundraiser for the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society.
  • I attended the grand reopening of The Herb Clinic where I gave greetings on behalf of Council. It was fun cutting the ceremonial ribbon with the Chamber of Commerce chair! Thanks to The Herb Clinic for making this event a fundraiser for St. Albert's Community Village and Food Bank - I spoke with their director last week, and the gesture was very much appreciated.

I met with representatives of L’Association de Tous Les Francophones de L’Alberta and Le Conseil De Développement Economique de L'Alberta to discuss our departure from the Alberta Bilingual Municipalities Association. We spoke about St. Albert's continued commitment to francophonie and our French heritage in St. Albert, and I showed off one of our newest businesses owned by a billingual family. (If you haven't tried Macarons & Goodies French Bakery, it's worth checking out!)

Along with Councillor McKay, I attended the Community Village and Food Bank's first themed fundraiser dinner. The Mexican Fiesta Night was hosted at the Community Village, where we were given the opportunity to hear some of the stories of St. Albert families who came from Mexico, and about Mexican culture (and food!). Thank you so much to the family who catered the event - the meal was amazing! - and to everyone who planned, decorated, and attended. KDM Management Inc. was the sponsoring business - It's wonderful seeing local businesses contribute to our community.

After a break from Council meetings, we're back in chambers on the 20th - I'll post agenda highlights later this week!

This is a brief high-level overview of highlights from our meeting agenda, with my personal comments sprinkled in - In no way are my opinions representative of the official direction of council or the City of St. Albert. Please let me know of any typos or errors. As always, I also encourage everyone who is able to tune in the the live-stream of the meeting (3pm here) or attend in-person (3rd floor of St. Albert Place, hang a right getting out of the elevator). You can also register to speak if you have information to present to council. Full agenda packages can be found on the stalbert.ca website.
