Thank you for the kind response to me taking over from Tim by providing an overview of upcoming council agendas! Although I read many of Tim's posts, I didn't know that he also provided an email newsletter until a resident emailed asking for posts to be sent to her inbox... If you'd like to get these posts delivered, please sign up at the bottom of the page.
November 9 highlights:
A lot of housekeeping:
3. Budget Information Requests and Postponed Motions
The proposed budget was released to the public on Monday, and we've started the process of asking questions of administration and making motions regarding changes to the budget.
4. Budget Deliberation Process
Our Chief Legislative Officer, Chris Belke, will give us an overview of the budget process and timeline. This will result in a lot of extremely dry motions to ease the normal rules of deliberation so we can get through the mountain of discussion that is required to approve the 2018 budget.
6. Divisional presentations - Development Services & Infrastructure Services & Utility Rates
These will be informative.
November 14 highlights:
3. Budget Information Requests and Postponed Motions (again!)
The proposed budget was released to the public on Monday, and we've started the process of asking questions of administration and making motions regarding changes to the budget.
4. Public Input, Plan and Budget Review - St. Albert Housing Authority, Arts & Heritage Foundation, St. Albert Library
We have three organizations registered to speak; I suspect that they will discuss the Outside Agency funding requests for Arts & Heritage, the library, and the St. Albert Housing Society (Affordable Housing Society).
5.1 Outside Agencies Operating Grants
We'll receive a presentation from administration detailing the recommendations for grant funding from the Community Services Advisory Board (CSAB), including their rankings for prioritizing funding. The CSAB recommended partial funding for VASA ($50,000) and for the St. Albert/Affordable Housing Society ($92,090).
5. Divisional Presentations - Community & Protective Services
CPS is comprised of Cultural Services, Community & Social Development, Fire Services, Policing, Rec & Parks, and Transit. This is council's opportunity to ask questions about the plans for 2018, and to propose changes.
As always, I also encourage everyone who is able to tune in the the live-stream of the meeting (3pm here) or attend in-person (3rd floor of St. Albert Place, hang a right getting out of the elevator). You can also register to speak if you have information to present to council. Full agenda packages can be found on the stalbert.ca website.
